Greatest Hits: God’s Favorite Band

God’s Favorite Band is Green Day’s first greatest hits album since International Superhits!, released sixteen years before in 2001. Although reliable sources give the credits for the album name to the band’s March 22, 2017 performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where an animated God duly introduces them as “God’s favorite band”, the concept dates back to at least 2005 as confirmed by the off-stage footage from the Bullet in a Bible DVD, where the following can be heard: Mike Dirnt: Why are there no clouds in the sky? Tre Cool: ‘Cause God wants to watch his favorite .
